ohh ohh boston, you're my home...

it's kind of amazing how you can spend most of your life in one place and then move to another place for 6 years and suddenly that new place becomes home. boston is where we started our marriage and our family. our experiences, our church there, and the friends in boston that have become our family have shaped who we are today and what we believe. so, even after being away for the past 7 months, it still felt like home to go back 2 weeks ago.

the trip started by surprising the cook kids (who didn't know we were coming) at my favorite ice cream place. quinn got to enjoy himself some rancatore's for the first time, since the last time we were in boston he wasn't able to eat dairy because of his allergy. after ice cream, quinn and brennan played outside while hannah had soccer practice. quinn had such a great time with hannah and brennan and still walks around the house calling for "annah" and "buba".
love these kids!
the next day we made a trip to shelburne farms with the thomasons - a tradition we have continued for the past 3 years now. quinn and eden were a little uncertain about checking out the horses...
picking apples!

so proud of his apple
and so was eden
bryan got a little help from john to reach these awesome apples at the top of the tree
quinn's turn to pick apples with daddy
and with mommy
the first time we came to this farm, eden could barely sit up and literally just tried to eat the pumpkins, and quinn wasn't even on the way yet. and, well, just check out what happened last year when we brought quinn here for the first time! but now look at how big our kiddos are!
the obligatory shelburne farms picture

tasting his first cider donut. and they were AMAZING. last year, quinn and I weren't eating dairy (again, because of his allergy), so neither of us could partake in the goodness that is the cider donut. this year we made up for that!
"more donuts!"

enjoying a book with aunt katie and sweet leah
love this girl :)
sweet friends checking out the squirrels outside

afternoon at the park with brandy and the kids. it was a little cold that day, which was so great after this miserable texas heat! john played soccer with the older kids while we entertained quinn on the playground. apparently someone needs to teach john how to play nice with younger kids (considering all of them were under 13 years old) because he managed to injure more than half of them at one point or another!
after enjoying some of brandy's yummy chili, quinn and brennan had a dance party in the living room. somehow it turned into a shirtless dance party (just for the two of them, obviously!) which made it that much better.

the next day we headed downtown to visit adorable miss harper in the hospital. we then ate lunch in fenway and stopped in the red sox store by fenway park to pick up some new sox gear for quinn. he loved playing behind the jerseys on the wall...can you find him?
is that him behind lester?
there he is!
showing off his new sox hat in front of fenway park. go red sox!!
our trip ended the next day by having lunch with friends and spending some time with kelly and baby asher. quinn enjoyed snuggling with asher (7 weeks old in this picture) on the couch. i'm sure they will be great friends someday!

we loved every minute of our trip! thank you to our wonderful boston family for your hospitality and making us feel so loved. we are truly blessed to have you in our lives. we can't wait to visit again and introduce baby girl to the people and places that hold such a special place in our hearts!
