all for a free bottle of water

over the past week, thomason has been building an office in the basement of the church. i have been providing help after work and this weekend we were going to paint the walls. kel had the car so i decided to bike the 3+ miles to church.

about a mile in, i realized i forgot my helmet. since i am out of shape, i did not want to turn back and get it, so i made sure to stay in the bike lane and obey all traffic signals.

that right there proved to be my downfall, as when i came in to huron village i noticed too late a car door opening right into the bike lane. i swerved as fast i could, but the car door still decided to flip me for real. i landed on my shoulder, ripping my shirt and causing a nice little abrasion / gash (see evidence below).

fortunately, i was able to hop right back up and turn to see a bigger lady in her mid 50s getting out of the car coming towards me to make sure i was ok. after repeating to her that i was ok and that my bike would be fine, she started to get tears in her eyes and began to hyperventilate, needing to use the hood of the car for support. i repeated that i was ok and asked if she was ok. when she realized i was going to be fine, she started to relax and appreciate the non-severity (made that word up) of the situation. we talked a bit about how sorry she was and i told her i should have been wearing a helmet anyway, but she still insisted i let her buy me a bottle of water.

when her daughter came out with the bottle of water, i again reassured i was ok and made sure she was ok. then she thanked me for being kind throughout everything and i rode on to church, unable to go into the 3rd main gear and with a bent handle bar, but gracious that those were the only casualties, along with a sore shoulder.

haha... no i was not stacy. that is two wayne's world references in one night of posting... if only thomason had been holding up a sign saying "i've seen him do it" on the noah's arcade picture.
