three

our sweet, funny, silly, smart, crazy-haired, talkative, energetic, train loving boy is THREE. how did this happen? three just sounds way older than two...i mean, a 2 year old is a toddler and a 3 year old is just a little kid. we are so so proud of the little boy he's growing to be, but i wish time would just S   L   O   W  down already!

quinn is probably the most talkative boy i know! we have conversations all day long and i will admit that sometimes in the car i offer him a book or try to play the quiet game just to give my ears a break! he narrates the day and asks lots of questions. he loves to play with his trains and commonly says things like, "thomas is racing through the countryside", "thomas's freight cars toppled over the bridge", and "the trains were going much too fast around the bend". if we tell him something, he will often say "oh, really? i didn't know that!". we have such funny conversations and i love that he wants to talk to me all day. i know that won't always be the case.

he is such a sweet little boy and he's very affectionate. especially with me because he knows it melts my heart. he totally uses it to his advantage! i love that he still says "i need to hold you" when he wants us to pick him up or give him a hug. if he gets caught doing something, like getting out of bed at night, the first thing he does is flash us this adorable little smile. ugh. how hard it is to resist that cuteness! and he knows it.

i love that he loves his sister so much. they play together and read books together. he wants to be the first to go in her room when she wakes up. he throws open the door, runs to her crib, and says "hey caro-wine!!" in a sweet little voice.

he is going to school 2 days/week with his BFF will and he loves it. he constantly talks about his teachers and loves to see them! he is the oldest one in his class and is the only one that doesn't take a nap. i know his teachers love that! he does still nap every day, but at school they put them down around 12:30, which is about 2-3 hours before he normally takes a nap. we started potty training last october and he has done so great. he's only had a couple of accidents since we started and none at school. his favorite thing is to "go standing up like a big boy".

quinn is still a great eater, but his favorite food is by far a peanut butter and honey "shand-wich". he requests that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. he also loves his raw milk, kefir, and plant juice. that's my boy :). oh, and chocolate "nolar" (granola) bars are probably his second favorite food. he sometimes eats the chocolate lara bars for a snack and would probably eat 10 a day if i would let him!

of course, being three doesn't come without its frustrations. he does sometimes get jealous of caroline. he woke up grouchy from his nap today and purposely tripped her as she went to get a book for me to read to her. he's getting really good at apologizing...he gets a lot of practice! and we probably say at least 100 times a day "how do you ask nicely for that?" and "quinn please listen the first time i ask you do do something, not the third time".  he's actually very well behaved for a crazy three year old boy. our biggest difficulty continues to be (and may always be, at this rate) bedtime. he HATES going to bed. nothing...literally nothing...will keep him in bed. no punishment, threat of discipline, or reward will keep him in bed. he will finally go to sleep in his bed on his own most nights, but it's usually fairly late by the time he actually falls asleep. he's been having what we think are mild night terrors several nights each week, and i'm sure it's related to being so overtired!

sweet quinn, mommy, daddy, and caroline love you so much. we treasure this precious time we have with you and look forward to continuing to watch you grow into a handsome, strong, godly young man. happy 3rd birthday, baby boy!
