gigi and papa came over early on christmas morning, just as quinn was waking up. thanks to a dark and rainy-turned-snowy morning, quinn walked right past the christmas tree without noticing anything so we all got to be there later when he saw everything for the first time. but before we get to that, let's talk about the crazy weather!! all of the adults (not sure how the kids slept through it) were woken up in the middle of the night by thunder, lightning, heavy wind, and sleet. it was so loud and it felt like the house was just going to blow away! so, here's what we saw when we woke up that morning:
yep, that's it. just a little sleet on the ground. my exact thoughts were, "well that's kind of a letdown. i suppose it's a texas version of 'white christmas' and it's pretty lame!". we tried not to get our hopes up that it would actually snow.
anyway, we opened stockings, ate yummy breakfast, and then mentioned to quinn that there might be something under the tree for him. here he goes!
he was excited to find a new thomas tent with lots of balls in it! (by the way, those balls are now EVERYWHERE. if you want to drive a parent crazy, don't get their kid a noisy toy. just buy a huge bag of plastic balls. kat and earl have already been warned that we will be paying them back for that one!)
trying to get a picture in front of the tree with their coordinating reindeer jammies. i love how caroline is looking at quinn in this one!
silly faces
and then, to our amazement, it started snowing! real snow. certainly not a lot, but enough to call it a real white christmas! here's caroline watching the snow fall:
so excited to go outside
it was so pretty
notice the perfectly shoveled sidewalk? my favorite quote of the day came from john as he dug our huge boston snow shovel out of the attic: "we are representing boston today. we are going to have the best shoveled sidewalk in the whole city, just you watch." and i'm pretty sure it's true because i didn't see even one other person out shoveling...
will came out to play, but only lasted about 10 minutes before he decided it was too cold. quinn, on the other hand, stayed out until it got dark and only came in because i was cold. maybe there is something to the fact that he was born in new england during a snowstorm??
sliding in the snow!
and there you have it! we rejoiced at the opportunity to celebrate our savior's birth, spend time with family, and enjoy the beauty of the snow. it was a great day!
