pumpkin patch

a couple of weeks ago we took the kids to one of the big pumpkin patches around here. although it wasn't a little apple orchard in new england with homemade apple pies, fresh cider donuts, and a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, it was really fun and the kids had a great time. until the end. but we'll get to that!

this was right before he tried to kick the pumpkin. apparently it reminded him of a soccer ball...

hay ride! 

quinn's thoughts about the hay ride: "mommy it was BUMPY...and we saw THOMAS!!!!!"

of course, they couldn't put thomas anywhere near the other characters. but after seeing thomas on the hay ride, we had to hike all the way to the other end of the parking lot to see him a little closer. this also involved breaking into a closed/chained gate. and for the record, that was gigi that got the chain open! and that is how much we love this boy.

 everyone was happy until quinn suddenly says, "mommy, i need to take my shoes off!". i look down and his feet and legs are covered in ants.

 we quickly pulled off his shoes and socks and tried to  get the ants off of him, but not before they could do this to his little legs:

poor kid! i was so proud of him. no tears or anything. he was just so excited to see thomas that i don't think anything else mattered. he does still talk about that incident, though. usually it goes something like this, "Mommy, I have owies on my legs. Gigi was taking a picture of us with Thomas and the ants bit me. But you got the ants off of me and we took off my shoes."

He's starting to have a pretty good memory!

In retrospect, maybe the rabid ants were the reason the gate was chained closed?? Hmmm...
