a texas tradition

a couple of weeks ago, i got up early, loaded up the car, woke up the kids, dropped them off at my parents' house, and drove downtown for work. just like any other work day. except that when i got there, they had done the schedule incorrectly and didn't actually have me scheduled for work that day. all of that work for nothing!  so, how do you redeem a day that starts off like that? you take your sweet little boy to the state fair! caroline stayed with my mom while quinn and i had a fun day together. and it turns out that was big tex's last day of life, as he went up in flames the next day. i'm so glad we went when we did!

picnic lunch date. i'm almost certain we were the only ones at the fair not eating fried food. but i'm ok with that and so was quinn :)

highlight of the trip: the petting zoo. 1 hour and $3 later, we had fed pretty much every animal in there!

on our way to the fair i was trying to explain to quinn what kinds of things we would see at the fair. i asked him what animals he thought we might see. his response? a giraffe. i told him that i didn't think we would see a giraffe (since when is there a giraffe at the state fair??), but that it was more likely that we would see cows, horses, pigs, and goats. so what is the first animal we see when we walk into the petting zoo? of course it's a giraffe. what?!

and he got to feed the giraffe from his own little cup. so cool!

he LOVED feeding these goats

he started getting pretty brave after a while. he would carefully search out exactly which animal he wanted to feed. then he'd stick his cup through the fence right in front of that animal until they started eating. he probably would have stayed there all day if i had kept buying animal food...

so fun!

we stayed a couple of hours and then drove home to pick up caroline. quinn was so tired that he was asleep before we were even out of the parking lot!

i have always loved going to the state fair and i'm so happy i got to share that experience with my sweet little love.
