after lunch with the cooks, we drove into town and checked into our hotel. it overlooked the chicago river and some busy roads. quinn loved looking out the window at the boats, buses, fire engines, and taxis.
we ate dinner at giordano's. from this sign, you can tell it is my kind of place:
quinn ate quite a few zucchini sticks and some bread and still managed to eat 3/4 of a slice of pizza.
which wouldn't be saying much except this is what our pizza looked like. spinach and green olives was the choice, and it was delicious. i had two slices, took a third because it was so good, but realized after two bites it would not be wise to continue eating since we were going to go walking after dinner.
in chicago, they have the bean, a legume that casts the reflection of the city. it sounded a little dumb when my mum suggested it, but i have to admit it was pretty cool. here is a picture of the skyline reflected in it.
and here is our cute family.
sarah's brother and sister in law, derek and julie, graciously found us a pack-and-play for michigan so we took the chance to travel without a stroller or pack-and-play... it was wonderful. instead, the only packing we needed was our carrier.
we are so blessed to have such a happy boy. he and i were both sweating profusely but he was still so joyful.

here is a cool shot of the city close to sunset. at one point, i ran across michigan avenue to a walgreen's. kel and q were going to walk a little farther through the park but quinn was content for about 10 minutes to sit and watch the traffic. the buses were his favorite, especially the double decker's and double longs. you could also see some el tracks in the distance. overall a great city for a little boy learning to love trucks, buses, trains, and the like.
