tessie is the royal rooters rally cry

with the sox not doing so hot, colder weather coming, and school having started, the conditions were ripe for cheap tickets to a mid week game. we had discussed taking quinn to his first red sox game this year for a while so with the season winding down quickly, we used craigslist to take advantage of the above conditions. cannot beat $15 tickets ($28 face) 9 rows behind the visiting bullpen!

kel and i used our knowledge of fenway to secure free parking. those not from boston do not understand how huge this is as $20 parking is considered cheap, even on a meaningless game night such as this one. walking to the stadium allowed us a few moments of nostalgia from when we happily lived in the area. behind kel and q is the park at the end of our old street. don't these two look great in their sox gear...

on the walk over, we noticed they opened a tasty burger where the mobile used to be. with kel not being the biggest supporter of the fenway frank, we ordered some delicious burgers and tasty fries, devouring them outside the gates while dozens of people oogled at quinn with glee. it is a big deal one's first red sox game. my prognostication was pessimistically 3 innings, optimistically 5 innings.

after getting a program to keep for quinn, we made our way into the stadium. here are kelli and q-ball both looking strapping in their sox hoodies. kel also had her varitek shirt on... what a woman!

heading out to the seats! he was overwhelmed by all the things to look at, smell, hear, etc.

one of the best things about fenway is you can go anywhere in the park with any ticket (save the green monster seats). thus before we went to our seats, we took a few pictures close to the infield. a beautiful mum and her son....

a rare decent picture of dad and his son...

and the happy family!

when we got to our seats, q took everything in, then wanted to play with his rattle. we could have done that at home, son! when buchholz got out of the first inning and everyone started clapping, quinn jerked alert. it was pretty funny to watch since he had no idea it was coming. overall, we had good people around us and quinn was his usual angelic self so the game went smooth(ly?).

taking a break for dinner never hurts either! i have to admit it was a lot of fun to sit in the fenway bleachers and give q-cash (that's for you brennan) his milk.

in between innings, when q was not dissecting pitch selection and defensive shifts in the outfield, he had a joy-filled time taking my hat off. strong hands on that boy...

in the end, because of 2,749 pickoff moves by buchholz on brian roberts, we only got to see three innings. the sasquatch was getting a little antsy and we did not want to press our luck since he had been so good to that point. we did take the long way back to the car so we could stop in the supahfans store. we had seen a booth of theirs in the north end when alli and matt were here and kel wanted to get this onesie for quinn. we ended up getting it plus a cool frame with a cutout to insert the onesie after q outgrows it and space to put pictures below it.

we walked to the car and drove home a grateful family. q-ball's first game could not have gone better (except the sox pulled buchholz after 6 with 0 earned runs and the bullpen gave up 8 to result in a 9-1 loss).

worm and ak's british adventure starts tomorrow. we love you guys and know that things will work out fine, that you will have a fantastic stay there, and that you will be used to reinvigorate the european church...

well it says posted by Kel, but what a great John post. sounds like a great game. Now Quinn can forever be a real Sox fan. :)

Great, it'll be awesome when he gets to go to his first Rangers game, I'll buy that funny boy a Kinsler jersey right now so he can match Michael and I.

It seems as though Brian is doing his best to impose his will on your young son through blog comments.
