22 months

i've been meaning to write this post for a while and now i HAVE to do it because he'll be 23 months in 2 days! which means that he will be TWO YEARS old in a month. wow.

i think at least a few times every day john and i look at each other and say, "he is just so cute!" or "he is so funny!" or "did you hear that? he is so smart!". i know we are a little (or a LOT) biased, but i think that's ok. we love our little boy, love spending time with him, and are so proud of the little toddler he has become!

these days, quinn's favorite things are cars and trucks, trains ("choo choos"), animals, and pretty much any sport. he also still really likes to read. he will bring some books from his room, say "mommy? read books. couch." and then go sit on the couch so you can read to him.

he talks non-stop. even if no one is listening...or he's in the car...or everyone around him is having a different conversation..or he's in his room playing by himself...or he's in his crib where we put him to bed 2 hours earlier. it doesn't matter. he will be talking to someone or something! some of his favorite things to say are:
-"i need hold you" (i mean, how can you say no??)
-"mommy/daddy...watch!" he loves for us to watch him play basketball or soccer or even just jump up and down.
-"oh man!" this always makes us laugh because he totally uses it in the correct context now...and all the time
-"gooooooooo!" he will immediately yell this if someone turns on any sport on tv. wonder where he learned this?
-"i need _____". fill in the blank with anything. he used to say "i want", but i guess he didn't think we were taking him seriously enough because now everything is a need.
-"mmmm ahhh!" which means he wants to kiss you
-"i need hold baby". he never calls caroline by her name, but always just "baby". but he is SO sweet with her. he loves to hold her, kiss her, and hold her hand. she doesn't know it yet, but she is one lucky girl!
-"behfast" = breakfast
-"diapy" = diaper

he will repeat pretty much anything you say and is pretty good at communicating - we can almost always figure out what he's trying to say. he can name almost all the body parts, name and identify a few letters ("double-doo" = w, as well as y and o) and sing "w, x, y, z" in the alphabet song. and as of the past week, he can count to 10. i'm not really sure how this happened. i count things with him when we're playing but he never really participated much. then one night he just counted to 10 in the bathtub. all by himself. what??

he is SUCH a climber. which reminds me that "kimb" (like climb without the l) is one of his new favorite words. anyway, we have recently discovered that he can climb up his changing table all by himself and up into his booster seat at the table, which is on one of those tall counter-height chairs. in the past week, we have had a few instances where he'll be playing quietly in his room and when one of us goes to check on him, he's standing up on his changing table trying to reach the stuffed animals on the shelf above the table. he gets in trouble but so far that has not stopped him from doing it again the next day!

he is learning table manners, when to say please/thank you/you're welcome, and is starting to help more with things around the house like cleaning up his toys and putting away his clothes. not to say that he is anywhere close to mastering these things, but we're working on it anyway!
happy 22 months to our sweet little boy! how incredible that the next update will be talking about our big 2 year old!!

sick little boy (we're actually all sick right now, even poor caroline) and his dog watching his new thomas the train video
