this is going to be a quick post to catch up on a lot of time and a few of things. it will be topical stream of consciousness and we apparently haven't taken any photos lately so i will only have one to share. sorry.
the red sox opened the season (poorly) in texas playing the rangers. we decided to go so we asked our boston friends, troy and amy, to come so we would have additional rooters for the sox. little did we know troy would stab us in the back and sport his michael young ranger shirt! this coming from a guy who watched in person a red sox world series victory. my oh my... i sported my ellsbury jersey from that same world series and kel had on her vintage sox shirt. sorry this picture is so dark.
after receiving our offer letter from txu, kel and i had some good time to house hunt. we found a house we loved, showed it to parents and friends for additional approval, and went through the negotiating process. after signing a contract on the house, the inspection led to a question that led to more questions. sadly, we did not feel comfortable going forward so we cancelled the contract during the option period. so we start the process of house hunting again.
speaking of that offer letter, i started working at txu energy on april 7. from the very beginning, the group has been awesome. very fun people who are helpful and enjoyable to be around. two other guys started a week or so before me so we have all been going through the learning process together. the work at first was daunting. i am still a ways away from completely understanding the business, but i at least feel i am contributing something. just a lot of files from a lot of places. my badge photo looks ridiculous... one of the bad things about my photo funk of late.
through an extremely random connection, i got on an indoor soccer team. the first game, i scored with my first run but after that was done. so out of shape. the second game was better but i was still dragging before the first half was done. at least we won both games. the team is a good group of guys (alliteration!) and i am at least running one night a week in preparation of the cinco de mayo tournament coming up.
congrats to team norstrom welcoming penelope into the world. prayers for team ashcraft as they anticipate the birth of their daughter.
i am revisiting the discs made for our trip since i have so much time in the car on commutes. every time i look at them, i am amazed at the response we received. still will post on them but just wanted those who made one to know you touched my heart.
some songs i have really been enjoying of late:
the gogol song in particular really reminds me why i love me some music. though hutz did not intend it this way, this song has really made me think about fatherhood. it has made me contemplate all the times ahead i get to be there for my boy and the special relationship we get to build as father and son. i did, after all, have a good example. i am not looking forward to the first day my boy gets hurt physically or gets made fun of (if his name was thunderbird, no one would make fun of him or he would destroy them) or doesn't succeed, but i will relish being there to pick him back up after the fact and build back up his confidence to jump into the fray anew. i hope he never has to ask of me why i didn't come when he beat his drum and screamed his head off into the night.
hope, i am praying for sunday at the somerville theater. it is going to be awesome.
i cannot post today and not note that many moons ago on this day Christ was nailed to a cross for you and me. as fully human, he suffered and died to conquer sin and death, and sunday we will celebrate his resurrection.
i miss the 215.
