how did this happen, one would not be faulted for asking? how do two white guys from belmont and watertown become the most sought after dj's in boston? to understand the answer to these questions, we need a little background. this story is just heresay, as no one quite knows what really happened.

last year at lincoln-elliott elementary school's halloween party / dance, the dj played music inappropriate for elementary school kids and was crude in his overall demeanor. this prompted brandy cook to get on the planning committe to find a suitable dj. in all of boston and new england (and probably the whole united states), no dj fit the requirements, so she went to dr. d to beg for his service.

dr. d accepted, and fearing for his life among ~125 elementary students and ~75 parents (the more frightening of the two), called on the help of one dr. j.

so on the saturday of the dance/party (costumes were required by all, though some parents wussed out), dr. d and dr. j loaded up all the church's sound equipment and went to lincoln-elliott elementary school in newton, mass and laid down one of the best performances ever from a dj or emcee, even without use of a turn table.
the program for this party was: intro / free dance => hula hoop contest => free dance => limbo => dance contest (see picture below) => free dance => costume contest, raffle prizes, etc => free dance. all of this we had to emcee, which was a lot more difficult than the dj part. i would love to see you try judging a costume contest with only one winner when parents are lobbying for their kid to win throughout the evening.
overall it was a blast, and we somehow got paid. here are some highlights:
- loading our gear, which looked impressive since it is very nice gear of the church's, and having people look at us like we were professional dj's
- forgetting the speaker stands and needing tyson to run them up 20 minutes before the start. big thanks to ty for that.
- all the kids knowing the cotton eyed joe and cha-cha slide dance
- brennan's tuft of glued on chest hair (see above pic; he was indiana jones; 3rd or 4th from right)
- getting asked how many parties a month we usually do at the end of the night (answer = 0)
- brandy dressed like a clown with a nose too tight so she sounded stuffy every time she talked to us
- getting to do all this with dr. d, who coined the phrase "we've got the prescription for this party".

one last story before ending this. i met the principal before the dance started and exchanged pleasantries. during the hula hoop contest, her child was hilarious by holding onto the hula hoop and rotating his body instead of moving his hips in a circle. we both laughed at this, and at the end of the night I went up to thank her for letting us come. then i inserted my foot by saying that her daughter was hilarious with the hula hoop. she responded, "well, he's my son, but thank you". in my defense, he had long blond hair and was wearing a witch costume. oh my.
