nothing like a heart attack first thing in the morning

so this morning john was running late and wasn't ready for work when i had to leave. he decided to take bella out one last time before he left, so he walked out with me when i left. the bus came over the top of the hill just as we got out the front door, so i said goodbye and started walking across the street to the bus stop. well, bella went crazy. she was barking and whining and standing with her face pressed up to the fence wanting me to come back. that wouldn't have been so bad (although it was really hard to leave like that!) if she hadn't remembered just as the bus was pulling up that the fence doesn't go all the way around in the back. she took off around the corner of the fence and was headed straight for belmont street, which is REALLY busy during rush hour. john and i both panicked! he took off after her and i headed for belmont street to attempt to stop traffic (yes, that's really what i was planning). thank goodness he was able to head her off on the sidewalk and somehow redirect her back towards our driveway because otherwise she was definitely getting hit by a car. bella was still running around, barking, whining, and shaking and any time john walked toward her she took off again for the street. finally she calmed down and came to him, so he was able to pick her up and return her safely to the yard. SCARY. as john said this morning, "we'll never do that again".

Here are some random cute pictures of Bella that we haven't posted yet:

here's Bella "swimming" in the doggy pond where we often take her for walks. in this case, swimming = being set in the water by john to see if she stays in longer than 5 seconds. the answer to that question is no.

we realize our puppy is spoiled. but how could you say no when a puppy this cute wants to sleep with you???

john with bella and her friend jesse james at our last playdate in the north end.

bella getting some rest after we picked her up from the animal hospital on saturday. she had a rough day on friday as she had 4 teeth pulled, was spayed, and got a microchip.

i'm not sure who is more upset about bella's latest neck fashion. luckily she only has to wear it when we're gone to keep her from licking her wound. a plus to the lampshade: apparently it somehow throws her whole system off kilter because she has no "accidents" in the house, even when she's home alone for 7 hours. she's accident-free for the past 4 days!

Bella is so adorable, I would have had a heart attack too if she ran off. Vet visits are never any fun for the pet or the parent. We miss you guys and can hear your voices in your blogging. Keep it up it makes us smile.
