quinn's first day of preschool

today was quinn's first day of preschool! to say he was excited is an understatement. every time we have driven by the school for the past few weeks, he exclaims "there's my cool!". he couldn't wait to get there today. the preschool is at a church about 5 minutes from our house and all of the teachers are really sweet. he's in the same class with our neighbor and he is SO excited about that. overall, i think it will be a great experience for him!

he got to choose dinner last night and john was so proud that quinn chose pizza! he got his fill of olives (his favorite part of pizza right now) and then we had our traditional "night before the first day of school" ice cream. quinn had his usual: cookies and cream mixed with dark chocolate with a few m&ms on top. except that he can never remember the name of m&ms and usually ends up asking for "mice and beans" on top (from the skippy jon jones books), which is hilarious!

ready for school this morning with his owl lunchbox (which he chose himself), thomas backpack, and thomas nap mat. our neighbor made matching thomas nap mats for quinn and will and he LOVES it. in fact, he's sleeping on it now in his room!

once he saw the toys he was good to go! he and will walked right in without even saying goodbye. i had to chase him down for a quick hug and kiss...more for me than for him :).

and then caroline and i left. no tears from anyone. at least not today. in the moment it just felt like i was leaving him in his classroom at church. when i really think about how fast he's growing up i get a little emotional. but i'm also really proud of the little man he's becoming, and that makes me excited about these new little steps. his teacher said he did great - he was polite, said "please" and "thank you", and was very helpful. and...wait for it....he actually took a nap! he loved his school and has already asked when he gets to go back and see his teacher.

and my favorite part of the day? seeing him light up when i got there to pick him up. he ran to the door, gave me a big hug, and held my hand all the way out to the car. and those are the moments that make me tear up more than dropping him off, because i want to hang onto that feeling forever. :)
