so whenever i want to write a post such as this one, i always think to the time elisa told me that she sometimes doesn't get my posts. the post which led her to make such a comment was about cd album art, though it also applied to when i garbled on about eurpoean soccer teams & players. anyway, this may be one of those posts. i will post tonight with pictures and video to make up for it.
moving forward! kel was talking to the president two nights ago and i jokingly called out that she should make a mix tape for us to listen to on the way to texas. thinking more about it, i thought "what a great idea!" (quotes because that literally is what i said in my head... i really am cool... maybe). that night i e-mailed a few friends with similar or interesting musical tastes asking them to make us a mix for the drive. i offered a mix back, though we don't have a cd burner on our computer so i said i would put the songs on the blog and postpone the actual delivery of said tape. i am not expecting many back because i did not give much notice and honestly i am not sure i would have made one only given a week's notice.
the offer is now extended to anyone who wants to make a disc for us. i promise that sometime over the 35-40 hours we will be in the car, we will give it at least one listen and maybe more... if it's good! heck, i'll up the ante to two listens, even if one is when kel and quinn are sleeping (norstrom)!
so here is my mix tape, to eventually be prepared for those interested and those who send us something. all links go to youtube videos of the song. clocking in around 72 minutes, here is what i am listening to now:
starting with a bang, winners of the album of the year grammy: arcade fire - empty room
keeping things moving, l.a.'s local natives - sun hands
from l.a., we head over to scotland frightened rabbit - swim until you can't see land
using the keys to get into a more dance track, passion pit - make light
keeping the dance theme: animal collective - summertime clothes
a newer band, discovered via norstrom = surfer blood - swim
moving to the first band listed when i began my list... could have been any of 5 songs, but: fang island - daisy
keeping the feel good vibe up is architecture in helsinki - that beep
there is never a good transition into... destroyer - savage night at the opera
but this follows well, actually the national - bloodbuzz ohio
which allows things to slow down for isobel campbell & mark lanegan - no place to fall
and if you don't look at the track list, you may think things end with aidan moffat + the best-ofs - the last kiss
but bam! love is all - busy doing nothing
and you thought that woke you up, but that fuzz isn't your speakers... it's sleigh bells - crown on the ground
keeping energy, if not the chaos, high with lcd soundsystem - girls
back to scotland we were promised jetpacks - quiet little voices
keeping the rock and roll, sleater-kinney's corin tucker band - doubt
this song has been repeating in my head for a while a.c. newman - there are maybe ten or twelve
letting you rest to end it daniel martin moore - it is well with my soul
so that's mine... what's yours?
